Patriotic Dipped Pretzel Rods

Prepare the Baking Tray

1. Line a large baking tray or cutting board with parchment paper or wax paper. This will keep the dipped pretzels from sticking while the coating sets. Set the sprinkles nearby so they are ready to use immediately after dipping.

Melt the Candy Coating

1. Add the vanilla candy melts and coconut oil to a tall microwave-safe mug or measuring cup. Microwave in 20 second intervals, stirring well between each round, until the coating is smooth and glossy. Stir in the vanilla extract once melted. The coating should look silky and pour easily from a spoon.

Dip the Pretzel Rods

1. Hold each pretzel rod near the top and dip about 3/4 of the rod into the melted coating. Slowly twist the pretzel while lifting it out to allow any excess coating to drip back into the cup. The coating should form an even layer around the pretzel.

Add the Sprinkles

1. While the coating is still wet, sprinkle the dipped pretzels with the red, white, and blue decorations. Rotate the pretzel gently so the sprinkles stick evenly on all sides. The coating may begin setting quickly, which is normal.

Chill the Pretzels

1. Place the decorated pretzel rods onto the prepared tray in a single layer. Transfer the tray to the refrigerator for about 20 minutes, or until the coating feels firm and fully set. The finished pretzels should have a crisp snap and glossy finish.
