Pull Apart Cupcakes
Soft vanilla cupcakes frosted together into a sweet heart-shaped pull apart cake. Perfect for Valentine’s Day parties, school treats, or an easy dessert that looks way fancier than it actually is.
Ingredients
Cupcakes
Buttercream Frosting
Instructions
-
Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a muffin tin with cupcake liners. Mix flour, baking powder, and salt in a bowl and set aside.
-
In a large bowl, cream the butter and sugar until light and fluffy, then mix in the eggs and vanilla until smooth.
-
Add half the dry ingredients, mix it up gently, pour in the milk, then stir in the remaining dry ingredients until just combined.
-
Divide the batter evenly into liners, filling each about two thirds full. Bake until lightly golden and springy on top, about 16 to 18 minutes. Cool completely.
-
Beat butter for the frosting until creamy, then slowly mix in powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla. Tint with food coloring and whip until fluffy.
-
Arrange cooled cupcakes into a heart shape, spread frosting evenly over the tops so they connect, and decorate with sprinkles.
Note
These cupcakes can be baked a day ahead, just store unfrosted cupcakes in an airtight container.
Boxed cake mix works perfectly if you want a shortcut, just make the frosting from scratch.
Unfrosted cupcakes can be frozen for up to 1 month, thaw at room temperature before decorating.
